SHENANDOAH, Texas -- The 2013 NCAA Division III Swimming and Diving Championships has come to a close with another successful day but Empire 8 athletes. 

The Stevens Institute of Technology men's team placed sixth in the nation; the best-ever in program history, topping the previous team-high of 11th after 2012. The Ducks finished with 185 points.

Kenyon was first with 499.5 points, and Denison placed second (428). MIT was third (334), Johns Hopkins took fourth (316) and Emory was fifth (280). The Ithaca Bombers completed the championship in 18th place (55) and Hartwick College finished 37th (11).

The Stevens women's team placed seventh in the nation, marking a top-10 finish for the third straight year. The Ducks totaled 167 points. Nazareth College was 25th (28), Hartwick took 39th (9) and Ithaca finished 41st (7). 
 
Emory won the women's team championship with 619 points. Kenyon placed second (483), Denison was third (363), Williams took fourth (304), Johns Hopkins picked up fifth (290) and Amherst was sixth. Stevens finished one spot ahead of MIT and 10 spots up on in-state rival TCNJ in 17th.

WOMEN'S HIGHLIGHTS
Nazareth senior Carissa Risucci swam the best race of her life and it resulted in a second-place finish in the 200-yard breaststroke. Risucci broke her own school record yet again with a time of 2:14.90, less than .20 of a second behind Wisconsin-Whitewater's Amy Spaay, who won the race in 2:14.71. The second-place finish was the ninth All-American award in Risucci's decorated career. 

Stevens sophomore Brittany Geyer took third in the 200-breaststroke with a final time of 2:15.09. Her finish set a new school-record and gave her All-America distinction in the event for a second-straight year.

Ithaca senior Carly Jones competed in the preliminary heats of the 200-yard breaststroke and placed 21st with a time of 2:22.21.

In the 1,650-yard freestyle, Stevens freshman Elizabeth Heinbach became an honorable mention All-American with a 15th place time of 17:11.13.

In the women's 100 free, Hartwick sophomore Jade Woodend finished 31st in a time of 52.24.
 
In the final event of the women's '13 championships, the Stevens 400-free relay team of senior Marissa Douglas, freshman Jennifer Rutledge, sophomore April Lawson and junior Louise Moores placed eighth with a time of 3:27.23. 

MEN'S HIGHLIGHTS
Friday's National Champion – junior Simas Jarasunas - re-broke his school-record with a third-place finish in the 200-yard breaststroke, clocking a 1:59.86. Hartwick senior Kenny Kleso placed 18th with a time of 2:04.94.

In the 1,650-yard freestyle, sophomore Wesley Elford placed fifth (15:31.64) and senior Alex Benham took 11th (15:49.26).

Ithaca's Martin Brown placed fourth on the 3-meter board with a score of 525.75 in the finals and Matt Morrison was fifth in the finals with a score of 522.30. In the preliminary diving round, Morrison scored 524.75 to place second and Brown was eighth with a score of 489.55.
 
In the final event of the 2013 championships, the Ducks placed second in the consolation final by just .01 second, and were 10th overall with a time of 3:01.44. The finish netted the group of Tommy Wolinski, Tyler Hessler, Bryon Held and Shawn Hanak honorable mention All-America nods and a new school-record.
 
Hartwick's relay squad of Lydon Schultz, Kleso, Miles Blaney and Brad Ranson  were 19th (3:03.73). The Bomber 400-yard relay team of Peter Knight, Zack Kundel, Adam Zelehowsky and Jake Robbins placed 20th (3:04.78).
