Dallas, PA – The Elmira College Women’s Lacrosse team used a strong team performance to down host Misericordia University, 19-5, Sunday afternoon at Mangelsdorf Field. The win improves the Soaring Eagles to 4-2, while the loss drops the Cougars to 0-7.
Five different players registered multi-goal games led by three apiece from
Jessica Blinkinsop ’14 and
Gretchen Smith ’14.
Blinkinsop also tallied four assists on the day, while
Sami Risi ’14,
Moorea Spoljaric ’16 and
Ashton Hogan ’15 each found the back of the net twice.
Misericordia scored first less than a minute into the contest but the Soaring Eagles responded with 14 consecutive goals and took a 14-2 lead into intermission. Nine different players scored in the opening 30 minutes for Elmira.
EC eased off the gas pedal in the second half but still controlled the game outscoring the Cougars 5-3 to secure the 19-5 victory.
Mary Kate Gellerman ’13 and
LeAnna Presler ’14 once again split time in net for Elmira.
Gellerman made the start and stopped three shots in the win, while
Presler made one save in relief. Erika Proctor made three stops in the loss for Misericordia.
The Soaring Eagles held large advantages in shots on goal (22-9), ground balls (21-13), free position shots (7-2) and draw controls (14-11). Elmira also went a perfect 7-for-7 in the contest on clear attempts.
Blinkinsop paced Elmira with five ground balls and a team-high six draw controls, while
Marissa Mongillo ’15 added a goal, four ground balls, three caused turnovers and two draw control wins.
The Women’s Lacrosse team opens Empire 8 play Friday when it travels to Pittsford, NY to take on St. John Fisher College at 4:00 p.m.
