Ingalls and Herforth Earn Empire 8 Player and Pitcher of the Week Accolades
Senior Mallory Ingalls of the Utica College softball team was named Empire 8 Conference Player of the Week and Stevens Institute of Technology senior Molly Herforth was named the Pitcher of the Week.
Ingalls, who opened the season with an eight-game hitting streak, batted .500 over the course of eight games last week. She had 13 hits, including one home run and five doubles, and drove in 11 to help the Pioneers to a 4-4 record. On the season, she leads the team and ranks second in the conference with a .484 batting average. She also has team highs in hits (15), RBI (12), and total bases (23).
The Pioneers are 5-5 and have three double-headers this week. UC will take on Southern Vermont and Skidmore at home on Wednesday and Friday, respectively, before traveling to Elmira on Saturday.
Herforth led the Ducks to their first win this spring, pitching a complete game while also starring at the plate.
Herforth allowed just one unearned run on three hits while striking out five hitters in seven innings at New Jersey City University on Saturday. She also went 2-3 with a walk, run and RBI at the plate.
Returning to the team this spring after a year off, Herforth has quickly re-acclimated herself to the game, as she leads the team in innings pitched (33.1) and strikeouts (12) while also boasting the top on-base percentage (.429), slugging percentage (.417) and tying for the top batting average (.333).
Herforth and the rest of the Ducks return to action in their home opener on Wednesday, March 27 against Ramapo College (5-5). First pitch is set for 3 p.m. at the Weehawken Waterfront.
