MT. UNION, Ohio -- Amanda Zacchigna (East Aurora, NY, East Aurora) scored twice to lead the Highlanders in a 22-4 setback at Mt. Union College in women's lacrosse action Tuesday.

Mt. Union scored twice before Houghton's Nicole Mason responded with a free position goal to pull one back for the Highlanders. However, the hosts would score 14 more times in the first half to take a 16-1 lead into the locker room.

Mt. Union outshot the Highlanders, 22-2, in the opening half.

The second half was more evenly played with the shots even at seven apiece. Zacchigna tallied both of her goals after the break and Rachel Stefanski (Wallingford, CT, Lyman Hall) added another. However, Mt. Union scored six more times for the final margin.

Lauren Niswander (Peninsula, OH, Revere) played 20 minutes in goal, making three saves and allowing 12 goals. Carly Congilosi (Boston, NY, Eden) played 40 minutes and allowed 10 goals while making four saves.

The Highlanders (0-6) return to action when they host Cazenovia College on Thursday at 3 p.m.
