Fisher Picks Up Win at Brockport

The St. John Fisher College women’s lacrosse team won its third-straight game, taking down the host College at Brockport 13-10 on a chilly Wednesday afternoon.  With the win, the Cardinals improve to 6-2 on the year, while the Golden Eagles fall to 5-2.

The Cardinals took control of the game from the get-go, breaking out to a four-goal advantage over the opening 8:38.  Melissa Leonhard scored two of the first four Fisher goals, before the Golden Eagles finally got on the board at the 13:24 mark.

Brockport would cut it to 4-2, but Fisher would out score the hosts 3-1 over the remaining minutes of the half to enter the intermission up 7-3. 

After the Cardinals took a 12-5 advantage in the second half, Brockport put the pressure on, cutting the game to 12-9 with four-straight goals.  However, Melissa Leonhard netted her fourth and final goal of the game with 13 seconds left to end the streak. 

Brockport scored with three seconds remaining, but it was for naught as Fisher came away with the road victory.

Emily Bryerton and Sam Barton both finished with three points, with Bryerton’s coming on a goal and an assist while Barton netted a hat trick.  Erin Ward finished with two goals and Taylor Hughes had both a goal and an assist.  Kristina Lombard scored once for the Cardinals and Lindsey Shoales chipped in an assist.

Marykate Edmunds and Leonhard both grabbed three ground balls, while Leonhard led with three caused turnovers.

Brockport outshot Fisher 19-11 in the second half, forcing Trpcevski to make five of her seven saves in the final 30 minutes.

The Cardinals will open up Empire 8 Conference play on Friday, hosting a 4 p.m. contest with Elmira College.
