Ithaca Men's Lacrosse Team Falters Late, Falls to Cabrini 10-8

ITHACA, N.Y. – The 15th-ranked Ithaca College men’s lacrosse team (6-2) allowed five fourth-period goals by 14th-ranked Cabrini (5-3) as the Cavaliers powered to a 10-8 victory Friday afternoon at Higgins Stadium.

Despite netting the first goal of the game, Ithaca trailed 3-1 after the first period. The Bombers answered with three of four goals in the second stint for a 4-4 deadlock at half. Ithaca continued to dominate in the third, netting another three to Cabrini’s one for a 7-5 lead entering the fourth. The Cavaliers tallied twice to knot action at 7-7, but junior Jake Long went unassisted in giving the Bombers an 8-7 lead at 9:32. Cabrini, who outshot Ithaca 9-5 in the final quarter, scored three in the final 6:15 of play to earn the road win.

Sophomore James Manilla had a hat trick for the third time in his career and added an assist to lead the Bombers with four points. Long added a pair of scores and dished out one assist, while junior Pat Slawta had one score and one assist. Junior Joe Perkins and freshman Michael Walker netted one goal each and junior Brandon Henne served up his first career assist.

Henne tallied seven faceoff wins and five ground balls – both career highs. Senior Adam Wacenske had a game-best six ground balls and junior Andrew Kristy a game-high three caused turnovers.

Freshman Scott Sidnam, who made 11 saves, suffered the loss in goal.

Cabrini led the shot count, 37-31, and held an 11-10 edge in faceoffs, while the Bombers collected 36 ground balls to the Cavaliers’ 35.

The Bombers return to action on Wednesday, April 3 hosting Alfred in its Empire 8 opener.
