Empire 8 Teams Wrap up Competition at ECAC's

New York, NY (3-2-13) – Empire 8 indoor track & field teams completed the Eastern College Athletic Conference Championship in New York City on Saturday. 

Stevens Institute of Technology senior Victory Servito wrapped up the heptathlon with a second place finish and school record 4,719 points. Servito took first in the 60-meter hurdles, second in the high jump and fourth in the 60-meter dash.

St. John Fisher freshman Devin Cornelius placed sixth overall in the heptathlon to lead the St. John Fisher College men's track and field team to the program's first-ever medal at the 2013 Division III ECAC Indoor Championship.

Cornelius, who entered the day in fourth place after the first four events on Friday, struggled in both the pole vault and the hurdles, but placed fourth in the 1,000 meters to earn three points for the Cardinals.

Nazareth junior Jake Lafaver provisionally qualified for the NCAA meet in the 800-meter run as he placed third with a personal-best time of 1:53.24.

Utica senior Sylvester Owusu-Afriyie placed sixth in the 60-meter dash finals. After clocking a 7.00 on Friday in the preliminaries, Owusu-Afriyie followed up on Saturday in the finals with a time of 7.05 as he placed sixth overall. 

Freshman Christian Lesperance tallied one point for the Pioneers in the 500–meter dash as he finished with a personal-best time of 1:06.85.

The Bombers' 800-meter relay finished sixth with a time of 1:30.35.

NCAA qualifiers will be announced on March 4., the top 13 men of each event will advance to the championships.
