Waybright and Belanger Named Empire 8 Player and Goalie of the Week
ROCHESTER, N.Y. (March 5, 2013) – Stevens senior Spencer Waybright and Utica senior Stephanie Belanger have been named the Empire 8 Women’s Lacrosse Player and Goalie of the Week, respectively.
Waybright recorded the 100th goal of her career en route to a six goal, six assist week. The Ducks started their season with a 20-3 win over the College of Mount Saint Vincent Wednesday, before falling at Montclair State University Saturday. Waybright tallied five goals and five assists on her way to a 10-point performance in the win over the Dolphins, and her fifth goal early in the second half served as the 100
th of her career.
Waybright added a goal and an assist at Montclair to bring her point total to 12 for the week. She also totaled five ground balls, four draw controls and three caused turnovers to her line in a strong all-around performance over the season’s first two contests.
Belanger saved four shots for UC as it earned its first win of the 2013 campaign defeating Houghton, 20-1, in its season-opener on Saturday, March 2nd at Charles A. Gaetano Stadium. She stopped four of the Highlanders five shots, compiling a save percentage of 80%. The senior goalie also scooped up six groundballs in the Pioneers victory.
