St. John Fisher College men’s basketball player Jason Norsen has been selected as a finalist for the prestigious Jostens Trophy.  Norsen, who this season became the 20th Cardinal to reach 1,000 points, is just one of 10 finalists for the award.

The Jostens Trophy is a national award created by the Rotary Club of Salem, Va., to honor the most outstanding men's and women's Division III basketball players of the year. The award takes into account three vital parts: basketball ability, academic prowess and community service. The trophy models the Rotary International motto of "Service Above Self" by recognizing those who truly fit the ideal of the well-rounded Division III student-athlete. This year's class marks the 16th year the award has been presented.

This season Norsen concluded his career at Fisher as the College’s all-time leader in blocks, racking up 221 over his four years, while also posting a 61.9 career field goal percentage.  That number also sits atop the Fisher record book.

Norsen was a three-time Empire 8 All-Conference selection and was recently named to the Capital One Academic All-America Team First Team by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).  It was his second time being named to the national academic list after earning All-District First Team honors for the second-straight year.

Norsen has been key member in the community as well.  A four-year member of Fisher's Student-Athlete-Advisory-Committee, he has helped generate money for the Golisano Children's Hospital through various fund-raising events.   He has volunteered as mentor, reading to children in the Rochester City School District, while also participating in various activities involving the Special Olympics.

The 2013 Jostens Trophy winner will be voted upon by a selection committee consisting of college coaches and administrators, former athletes and media members.  Voting will conclude on March 13th and the award’s winner is expected to be announced by March 15th.
