UC Women's Lacrosse Cruises Past SUNYIT

Utica, NY (4/10/13)- The Utica College women’ lacrosse team snapped a two-game losing streak Wednesday as it ran away with an 18-5 victory over SUNYIT. Ten different Pioneers scored at least one goal on the day.
Sophomore Morgan DuPont tallied a game-high six points on four goals and two assists. Utica (7-3) is now two wins shy of tying the program-record for wins in a single season (9) which was originally set back in 2008 when the Pioneers finished the year 9-8 overall.
Sophomore Megan Kane scored four goals to move her season total to 29 and junior Vanessa Maines netted a career-best three goals on the day. Meanwhile, sophomores Louise Steele-Norton and Patricia Kane each had two goals and an assist.
Freshman Courtney Wheeler continued her strong play, racking up five draw controls to go along with one goal and two assists. Julia Primps, Samanatha Gebler, Lindsey Gelles and Colleen Dowling all had one goal apiece and Mary Morgan Marafino added an assist.
SUNYIT’s Jenna Lashua led the Wildcats with three goals on the day. Senior Stephanie Belanger and freshman Erin Jacobson combined for three saves in the win.
UC returns to action Saturday as it hosts Empire 8 leader, Ithaca College. Game time is set for 3 p.m.
