Stevens Men's Tennis Continues Climb up Northeast Rankings

Intercollegiate Tennis Association Division III Men’s Rankings for the Northeast region, which were released April 11. The Ducks climbed one spot to No. 13 – just four behind undefeated national No. 30 The College of New Jersey – while senior
Chris Rosensteel (East Windsor, N.J.) and freshman
Matthew Heinrich (Hendersonville, Tenn.) also featured in the singles and doubles rankings.
The Ducks defeated New York University, ranked No. 13 in the March 28 rankings, by a narrow 5-4 margin to kick off the two-week stretch and followed with Empire 8 victories over St. John Fisher College (8-1) and Alfred University (9-0) this past Saturday.
Rosensteel held his position as the No. 8 singles player in the Northeast while Heinrich moved up four spots to No. 15 in the region. As a doubles pairing, the duo also moved up four spots to No. 3.
The Ducks will have plenty of opportunity to make a push for the Top 10 over the next two weeks as they play nine matches, including three against national Top-30 competition. No. 27 Skidmore College is first up on the schedule as Stevens will head to Saratoga Springs, N.Y. this Saturday, April 13 where Rosensteel is likely to face Jimmy Sherpa, who is ranked No. 25 in the Northeast, at first singles.
Stevens will then host Vassar College on Wednesday, April 17 following an Empire 8 doubleheader on Saturday, April 14. The Brewers rank just one spot ahead of the Ducks and are led by the No. 5 singles player in the region in Andrew Guzick, who has gone 8-7 at first singles this season. Vassar has not posted even a .500 record at any other court, although the first doubles pairing of Guzick and Daniel Cooper has managed a 6-1 record.
Just three days later, the Ducks will head to Middlebury College to take on the No. 9 team in the nation. The Panthers boast three Northeast top-16 singles players – No. 1 Alex Johnston, No. 11 Brantner Jones and No. 16 Palmer Campbell.
Stevens will also host national No. 30 TCNJ on Wednesday, April 24. TCNJ’s first doubles pairing of Howard Telson andMarc Nichols ranks No. 10 in the Northeast The Ducks will also play three more Empire 8 matches before the next rankings are released on May 2.
