Houghton Takes Game 1 with Stevens Tech on Friday

OLEAN, N.Y. -- Kameron Konert (Bolivar, NY, Bolivar-Richburg CS) pitched a seven inning shutout and got three runs in support in a 3-0 win over Stevens Institute of Technology on Friday at St. Bonaventure University.

The game started almost an hour late due to rain.

The Highlanders jumped up 1-0 in the bottom of the first after Christopher McKay (Oakville, ON, Canada) was hit by a pitch and Ignacio Villalobos (Brantford, ON, Canada, Assumption College School) singled. Kaiden Bowers (Brantford, ON, Canada, Assumption College School) doubled to right to drive in McKay.

Three more hits in the bottom of the third put another run across for Houghton. Villalobos singled and stole second, Bowers singled and Jacob Bannerman (Wasaga Beach, ON, Canada, Stayner Collegiate Institute) followed with another single to drive in Villalobos.

The final Highlander run came across in the bottom of the fifth. Villalobos continued his torrid performance, reaching on a double to left field and scoring on a single by Bowers.

Villalobos finished 3-for-4 with two runs scored. Bowers was 3-for-3 with two RBI.

Konert scattered eight hits over seven innings to get the win. He also struck out three Stevens batters.

Game two was suspended due to darkness after four innings with the Ducks leading, 3-0. The game will be resumed on Saturday at 10 a.m.

The teams will complete their two-day four-game matchup with a doubleheader beginning at noon Saturday.
