Stevens Takes 11th at F&M Spring Invitational

LANCASTER, Pa. (April 15, 2013)
 – The Stevens Institute of Technology men’s golf team placed 11th at the 2013 Franklin & Marshall College Spring Invitational Monday, turning in a team total of 324.
 
Albright College won the event with a 300 at the par-71, 6,158-yard Bent Creek Country Club course. Dickinson College was second with a 304 and Stevenson University was third as a total of 18 institutions competed in the one-day tournament.
 
After the first of three-straight days of competition yielded a team score of 352, the Ducks steadily improved over the next two rounds. Stevens carded a 338 in the second round of the New York University Invite Sunday, before notching a 324 in today’s F&M Spring Invitational.
 
Leading the Ducks Monday was senior Scott Reardon (Linwood, N.J.) who tallied an eight-over 79. Junior Richie Szeliga (South Plainfield, N.J.) was solid with an 80, while sophomore Justin Niemeier (Hohokus, N.J.) carded an 82.
 
Junior Anthony Rusnack (Carbondale, Pa.) of Albright earned medalist honors with a two-under 69.
 
Stevens will return to action for rounds three and four of the Empire 8 Men’s Golf Championship in Hershey, Pa. on Saturday and Sunday. After two rounds of play that took place in the fall, the Ducks sit in fourth place (of nine) with a team total of 656. St. John Fisher College is headed into the final two rounds with the lead after a 596 last fall.
