School Record, Three Nationals Qualifiers Highlight Highlander Track Performances at Roberts
N. CHILI, N.Y. -- Despite cold and wet conditions, Highlander track athletes performed well at the Roberts Wesleyan College Invitational on Saturday.
Highlighting the performances were three NCCAA National qualifying times in the 3000 meter steeplechase.
Leah Williams (Adams Center, NY, South Jefferson HS) finished third in the event in 12:33.46, while
Annelise Hein (Mechanicsburg, PA, Mechanicsburg HS) was close behind in fifth (12:50.21). In the men's race,
Timothy McGowan (Dansville, NY, Dansville HS) finished second in a qualifying time of 10:09.70.
Andrea Melhorn (Mount Joy, Pa, Donegal HS) broke the school record in the hammer with a throw of 41.26 meters. She finished fourth in the event.
Other notable performances included
Alyssa Figueroa (Piscataway, NJ, Timothy Christian) grabbing first in the 100 meters in a time of 12.70 and second in the triple jump with a leap of 10.17 meters. The women's 4x100 relay, comprised of Figueroa,
Tatum McLeod (Kitchner, ON, Cameron Heights) Savannah Doviak (Shirley, NY, Longwood HS), and
Sarah Munkittrick (Ottawa, ON, Ottawa HS), finished second in a time of 51.73.
