Cardinals Lose Battle With Red Dragons

The St. John Fisher College men’s tennis team lost in heart-breaking fashion on Thursday night to SUNY Oneonta. In a lengthy competition that saw five of the six singles matches go three sets, the Red Dragons snuck out a 6-3 victory over the Cardinals at Mendon Racquet Club.
With the loss, Fisher falls to 3-10 overall, while Oneonta improves to 5-13.
Fisher trailed 2-1 after the doubles matches with Sheldon Mitchell and Nathaniel Ligon earned the Cardinals’ lone point with an 8-6 win at third doubles.
Fisher won the first set in five of the six singles matches, but was only able to pick up points at fifth and sixth singles. Tom Quinzi won 6-2, 4-6, 10-7 at sixth singles, while Ligon held on for a 6-3, 3-6, 11-9 win at fifth singles.
Fisher will return to action at 4:30 p.m. on Saturday at the Ellicott Tennis Courts In Amherst.
