Royals Open Spring Campaign With Tie For 3rd Place at Moravian Spring Invitational

DANIELSVILLE, Pa.—The University of Scranton men’s golf team opened the spring portion of its season by tying for third place in the 14-team field at the Moravian College Spring Invitational staged at Woodstone Country Club Thursday.
The Royals shot a 327 to end up in a tie with Ursinus College, 13 strokes behind team champion Keystone College (314) and 12 behind runner-up Moravian (315). Centenary College was fifth (329), followed by DeSales University (330), Penn State-Berks (331), Muhlenberg (332), FDU-Florham (338), Misericordia and Valley Forge Christian (each shot 345), Eastern (346), William Paterson (363), and Widener (372).
Junior Charles Hudacek (Moosic, Pa./Scranton Preparatory) shot a seven-over-par 79 to finish in a six-way tie for 12th place to lead the Royals. It was his sixth sub-80 round of the season.
Senior captain Justin Riley (Haymarket, Va./Battlefield) was next for Scranton with an 81, followed by sophomore Erik Meyer (Clarks Summit, Pa./Abington Heights) with an 82, and junior Grant Gulick (Binghamton, NY/Johnson City)carded an 85. Riley, Meyer, and Gulick finished tied for 18th, tied for 22nd, and tied for 32nd, respectively.
Erik Ivarrson of DeSales University won the individual title with a one-over-par 73. Aaron Thieme of Moravian was runner-up with a 75 while three other golfers tied for third place with a 76.
The Royals will return to action this Monday, April 1, against FDU-Florham at Morris County Golf Club in Morristown, New Jersey, beginning at 1:00 p.m.
