Nazareth stuns #6 Stevens; Fisher, Ithaca and Utica Also Win
NAZARETH v STEVENS
Nazareth's freshman attack tandem of
Luke Wooters and
Troy Haefele combined for 10 goals Saturday for host Nazareth as the Golden Flyers shocked sixth-ranked Stevens in a key Empire 8 men's lacrosse game, 17-8, on a cold and blustery day on Nazareth's upper field.
The victory was the fourth in a row for the Golden Flyers, who improved to 10-4 overall and 5-0 in the Empire 8. The Ducks dropped to 10-3 overall and 4-1 in conference play.
The Golden Flyers jumped on the Ducks early as dominant faceoff work by sophomore
Drew Simoneau resulted in a goal by Wooters just seven seconds into the game. After another Simoneau faceoff win, Troy Haefele scored just 23 seconds after that. Wooters scored again with 11:57 to go, then Troy Haefele again just six second later. All told, Nazareth scored seven times in the first quarter before the Ducks scored with just :01 left in the period.

Kyle Fanning in the second quarter extended the lead to 9-1. Nazareth scored six more times overall in the second quarter to swell the lead to 13-3 at the break.

Scott Brown finished with a career-high 17 saves to preserve the lead.
Nazareth outshot Stevens 55-44 and had a 51-40 edge in ground balls. Nazareth scored five extra-man goals in nine attempts while limiting Stevens to one goal in nine attempts. Griffin Rock led the Ducks with three goals.
ST. JOHN FISHER v ALFRED
The St. John Fisher College men's lacrosse team picked up a 15-4 win over visiting Alfred University on Saturday. With the win, Fisher improves to 10-4 overall and 3-2 in the Empire 8 Conference. This marks the seventh straight season Fisher has reached double digits in the win column.
With Fisher leading 2-1 after the opening period, the Cardinals scored five straight goals to take control in the second quarter.

Jamie Campagna made 10 of his season-high 15 saves in the first half.
Alfred made it 11-4 in the opening seconds of the fourth quarter, but Fisher sealed the win, scoring four unanswered to end the game.
ITHACA v HARTWICK
The 20th-ranked Ithaca College men's lacrosse team (10-4, 4-1 Empire 8) dominated visiting Hartwick (5-7, 1-4 Empire 8) 15-5 Saturday afternoon at Higgins Stadium.
Ithaca rattled off nine unanswered first-half goals before improving to 10-0 early in the third. Ithaca narrowly outscored the Hawks, 6-5, in the second half to win its 10th straight over Hartwick.
Steve Danylyshyn had a career-high seven ground balls and freshman Eli Gobrecht scooped up six. Junior Brandon Henne matched a career-best performance with 12 faceoffs to pace the Bombers.

Scott Sidnam made 10 stops in goal for the win, while senior Andrew Landsman had two in the final 10 minutes of play.
Ithaca held a 44-34 margin in shots and a 48-33 advantage in ground balls. The Bombers owned a 12-11 edge in faceoffs.
UTICA v ELMIRA
Four Pioneers including Justin Edelstein, Trent Jacobs, Ben Winkler and TJ Benson tallied hat tricks to lead the Utica College men's lacrosse team to a 15-7 win over Empire 8 Conference rival Elmira College Saturday on the road.
The Pioneers move their overall record to 8-5 including a 3-3 mark in the Empire 8 while Elmira falls to 1-10 on the season.
The home team came out on all cylinders as it worked a 5-2 lead throughout the first 15 minutes of play. The edge was short lived though as the Pioneer offense woke up and rattled off four second quarter goals to even the score, 6-6, headed in halftime. Jacobs netted two of his three goals in the first half while Winkler, Benson,
Dan Duffy and Tom Bryne earned the other UC scores.
UC came out in the third period on a tear as it outscored the home team 6-0 and moved to a convincing 12-6 lead headed into the final 15 minutes of action. Jacobs scored the first goal of the second half to complete his hat trick while Edelstein and Benson both put home two of their three tallies.
Andrew Jamieson was responsible for the other UC score.
The Pioneers locked up the win in the fourth as they outscored the Soaring Eagles 3-1 en route to snapping a three game slide and grabbing their third victory in the E8.

Trey Adams stopped fours shots in the win while Elmira's Dave Bucchino allowed 15 scores while saving 217 shots in the loss
HOUGHTON v MT. UNION
Houghton struggled to find any offensive firepower in a 23-0 men's lacrosse loss at Mt. Union College on Saturday.
The Highlanders were without leading scorer Tyler Kempney, who has been struggling with injuries in recent weeks.
Mt. Union outshot Houghton, 68-6, and forced 37 turnovers. Ground balls also went in Mt. Union's favor, 60-24.
Gabriel Browning (16 goals and eight saves) and Josh Haingray (seven goals, 10 saves) each played a half in goal.
The Highlanders wrap up their season when they host Bryn Athyn College on Saturday, April 27 at 1 p.m.
