Fisher Wins 2013 Men's Golf Empire 8 Championship Title

The St. John Fisher College men's golf team won the Empire 8 Championship on Sunday afternoon that was held at the Hershey Country Club East Course in Hershey, PA. It is the Cardinal's eighth Empire 8 title in the last nine year.

Junior Thad Wier shot a 75 on Sunday, finishing with a four-round total of 303 (75-74-79-75).  Wier, who posted the tournament's lowest overall score, was named as the Empire 8 Conference's Player of the Year.

Freshman Corey Haas was named as the Empire 8's Rookie of the Year.  The freshman shot the lowest round on Sunday (71) and finished the tournament with a 305 (82-75-77-71).  
 
As a team, Fisher shot 63 strokes better than any competitor with a total of 1212 to run away with first place. With the Championship win, the Cardinals will move on to play in the NCAA Championship which will be held at the Sandestin Golf and Beach Resort in Destin, FL from May 14-17.
 
The University of Scranton men’s golf team had a strong final round to finish second overall, the best finish for the Royals since joining the Empire 8 in the 2009-10 season. Scranton’s previous best finish in the Empire 8 was fourth, accomplished each of the past two seasons. 
 
The Royals shot a four-score total of 325 on the par-71 layout to finish with a four-round total of 1275. Scranton was 10 strokes ahead of third-place Elmira (1285). Scranton sophomore Erik Meyer shot an 83 on the final day to finish tied for fifth overall with a 72-hole total of 314.
 
Stevens Institute of Technology placed fourth at the Championship – the highest finish in the history of the program. Stevens turned in a 343 in the fourth and final round for a total score of 1,330. 

Leading the Ducks on Sunday was sophomore Cameron Hill who turned in an 81 on Sunday and an overall mark of 323.
