Pine Valley, NY – The EC Men’s Tennis team fought well, but eventually fell to a tough Roberts Wesleyan College squad 9-0 Friday afternoon at the Murray Athletic Center. The Redhawks improve to 18-5 on the season, while the Soaring Eagles fall to 4-4.
The Redhawks dominated in doubles play not giving EC many opportunities to rally back. EC’s first doubles team of
Keith Bujak ’15 and
Sam Pine ’14 put in a great effort, but Roberts was able to make better shots at critical times to secure the 8-3 victory. At the second and third spot there was life for EC late, but once again Roberts stayed confident pulling out both matches with 8-2 wins.
Singles continued to go well for the Redhawks as they took all six matches, but the Soaring Eagles showed no remorse fighting in every match. The best hope for EC was
Bujak who played at the fourth singles spot. He dominated in the first set taking it 6-3, but struggled to find his rhythm in the second set falling 6-0. After the momentum shifted and it looked to be over,
Bujak fought back forcing Roberts Wesleyan’s Robert Beer to make critical shots to earn a 6-4 third set victory.
Gorav Simlote ’13,
Steffan Waters ’13, Satchal Waters ’16 and
Austin Mansell ’16 each were hitting very well on the court, but none were able to get through falling in straight sets to their opponents.
The Purple and Gold will return to action tomorrow when they host Oswego State University at the Murray Athletic Center at 1:00 p.m.
