Stefanon Named National Player of the Week
After allowing just one earned run in 41 innings pitched last week, good for a 0.17 ERA, St. John Fisher College softball pitcher Sarah Stefanon has been named Louisville Slugger/NFCA Division III National Player of the Week for the week of April 16-21.
Stefanon started six games last week, allowing a combined total of 15 hits. Just three of those hits went for extra bases as she struck out 66 batters while walking just four for a WHIP of 0.463.
The Cardinals went 8-0 on the week with the highlight for Stefanon coming in a doubleheader against the College at Brockport. She pitched 15 total innings (two complete games), scattering four hits and allowing just one unearned run while striking out 26 batters, 16 of which came in a career-high effort during the extra inning game. Stefanon reached double-digit strikeouts in four of the seven games.
The highest Stefanon’s ERA reached last week was 0.19 when Alfred scored one earned run against the senior pitcher. For the season, Stefanon ranks fifth nationally in ERA (0.73) and fifth in strikeouts per inning (173 Ks over 115 innings).
Fisher closes out the regular season with a doubleheader at D'Youville College on Friday and a doubleheader on Sunday at St. Lawrence University.
