STEVENS v UTICA
The Stevens Institute of Technology baseball team tallied two victories on Saturday night over Empire 8 Conference foe Utica College at Dobbelaar Field. Stevens walked-off with a 5-4 victory in extra innings in Game One and then blew out Utica, 10-2 in the night cap to complete the sweep. The Ducks are now 21-16 overall this season with three regular season games to play.
In the first game, junior Dan Allen ended the opener on a walk-off single to centerfield with the bases loaded to lift Stevens in extra innings, 5-4. Freshmen Nicholas Sieber
and Jonathan Toro
both reached in the bottom of the eighth on hit by pitches and then junior Curt Lowenstein singled to fill the bases for Allen.
In the second game Gary Boardman punched out seven Pioneers in six innings pitched for his third victory of the season. Boardman carried a no-hitter into the fourth inning where both hits and runs were tallied for Utica. Through 41.1 innings pitched this season, the righty holds a paltry 1.96 earned run average.
The Ducks wasted no time to put the night cap out of reach as they scored eight of their 10 runs in the first and second innings. Stevens scored three runs in the first and five more in the second by way of seven hits.
