Outdoor Season Begins In Record-Setting Fashion
Several records were broken by the St. John Fisher College men’s and women’s track and field teams on Saturday at the University of Rochester Invitational.
Chris Wehner led Fisher on the day, winning the 110-meter hurdles with a new Fisher-record time of 15.58, which already qualifies him for ECACs.
Joe D’Agostino advanced to the finals in the 100-meter dash and placed fifth overall, posting an NYSCTC B-standard time of 11.57
Trevor Wilkes broke the Fisher record in the 200 and 400 with times of 23.65 and 51.03, respectively. His time in the 400 was second overall.
Will Sterricker set a Fisher record and placed fifth overall in the 400 hurdles with a time of 59.10. Both Eric Mikols and Devin Cornelius set Fisher records in the 800, placing fourth and fifth, respectively, while Matt Herbert placed eighth overall in the 1,500.
Jeffrey Mangiafesto broke the Fisher record in the 5,000 with a time of 17:56.
Freshman Kyle Koehler set the Fisher record in the shot put (12.68 meters), as well as the discus (30.86 meters).
In the hammer, Kyle Barry destroyed his own school record by over four meters (40.42 meters) and then came back to break his own school record in the javelin (45.99 meters) and placed third in the event.
On the women’s side, Morgan Mastin had an impressive day, breaking school marks in the 200 and 400. Her 400 time (1:01.62) was good for second overall and meets NYSTC A standard, while her 200 time (27.28) was B standard. Mastin finished fourth in the 200, while teammate Nicoletta Lattuca placed fifth overall in the event.
Katlin Shippy shattered the Fisher record in the 800 (2:27.87) and placed sixth overall. Joanna Vassiliou broke her own record in the hammer throw (36.08) and finished sixth overall. Both Shippy and Vassiliou posted solid B standard marks.
Paige Willson placed second overall in the shot (11.17 meters), while Emily Williams was seventh in the discus.
