Ithaca Men's Track & Field Team Opens Outdoor Action at Ithaca Invitational

ITHACA, N.Y. – The Ithaca College men ‘s track & field team opened its 2013 outdoor season hosting the Ithaca Invitational Saturday at Butterfield Stadium.

The Bombers clocked one ECAC qualifier on the day, matching the standard in the 4x100-meter relay with a finish of 43.75. Sophomore Rashaad Barrett, freshman Jeff Hejna, sophomore Kevin Davis and junior Jake Willis teamed together to win the race.

The team of freshman Dane Eckweiler, sophomore Tyler Curtis and freshmen Zane Shephard and Malcolm Nelson clocked a 3:38.40 finish to run second in the 4x400 relay.

Ithaca had 17 top-five individual finishes during the meet.

Four were in the top five of the 100 dash. Willis was second in 11.30, Barrett third in 11.47, Hejna fourth in 11.50 and Davis fifth in 11.51. They also ran well in the 200 as Willis placed third in 22.67, Hejna fourth in 22.72 and Barrett fifth in 23.38.

Graduate student Tyler Murray and junior Sam Horwath placed third and fifth in the 10,000. Murray finished in 33:28.32 and Horwath crossed the finish line in 34:13.21.

Freshman De’Marquis Graves placed third in the triple jump and junior Brendan Wilkins was third in the high jump. Graves had a mark of 12.47 meters and Wilkins cleared 1.87 meters.

Four Bombers earned fourth-place finishes. Sophomore Dennis Ryan placed fourth in the 1,500 in 4:08.37, sophomore Kyle MacKinnon did so in the 400 in 52.57, senior Brian Maley in the long jump with a mark of 6.02 meters and freshman Jevaughn Gibbs in the javelin with a toss of 46.22 meters.

A pair finished in fifth place. Senior Rad Arrindell did so in the 110 hurdles in 16.94 and junior Chris Stremmel was fifth in the shot put with a 12.50-meter heave.

Ithaca next competes on Saturday, April 6 at the Muhlenberg Invitational.
