Houghton Outdoor Track & Field Season Gets Underway at Roanoke College Invite
SALEM, Va. -- The Houghton women's track and field team took second place, while the men finished fourth at the Roanoke College Track and Field Invitational on Saturday.
The teams were shorthanded due to injuries and have been limited in their outdoor training opportunities this spring due to weather.
Steve Piazza had a strong all-around performance, bringing home points in four events. He placed second in the 400 meter (51.94), second on the javelin (42.48 meters), fourth in the 200 (23.94) and was a member of the third place 4x100 relay team.
For the women, Mary Strand led the charge with a first place finish in the 400 (1:00.1) and fourth place in the 200 (27.62).
Other notable performances included Jordan Cady's first place result in the men's triple jump (40 feet 9.75 inches), Danielle Lyndsley's first place pole vault finish (8 feet 9 inches) and Marina Slavin's second place 1500 meter time of 5:09.66.
The teams return to action on Friday, March 22 and Saturday, March 23 for the Mary Washington Invitational in Fredericksburg, Va.
