Williamsport, PA – Ashley Palmer ’16 went a perfect 7-for-7 at the plate and
Alex Puglisi ’14 and
Katie Hobson ’13 combined to give up just three total hits as the Elmira College Softball team swept host Pennsylvania College of Technology, 9-0 and 8-0, Wednesday afternoon in Williamsport.
The wins improves the Soaring Eagles to 8-4 overall, while the losses drop the Wildcats to 3-13. The 8-4 opening to the season is the best start to a campaign for a Soaring Eagle Softball squad since the 2010 team began the season 8-2.
Game One
Puglisi had another dominating performance in game one as she gave up just two hits, walked one and struck out 13 batters. Coming into today’s contest the junior ace was in the top 10 statistically in Division III with four shutouts.
The Soaring Eagles spread the batting throughout the lineup as they picked up one run in the fourth inning and finished the game strong with a pair of four-run innings in the sixth and seventh innings.
Palmer had a sizzling bat going 4-for-4 at the plate which included a triple, scoring a run, and knocking in three RBIs.
Puglisi also finished with a multi-hit game going 2-for-4 while adding an RBI.
Alex Andrade ’13 recorded a double and scored three runs for EC.
Game Two
Strong pitching continued to be a theme in game two for the Purple and Gold as
Hobson gave up a lone hit, while walking one and striking out seven batters through five innings.
Palmer finished game two going 3-for-3 with a home run and two RBIs.
Mikayla Bean ’14 added a round-tripper of her own as she scored twice, and
Hobson and
Megan Anderson ’15 both registered doubles as the EC bats continued to heat up.
Jacquelyn Heggie ’16 was crucial in moving runners over in the contest as she finished with two sacrifice hits and an RBI.
The Softball team returns to action Thursday evening when it hosts Hilbert College for a doubleheader at Eldridge Park Stadium beginning at 6:00 p.m.
