12 Pioneers Place 1st as UC Women Open Outdoor Season with Dominating Performance at Hamilton

Clinton, NY (4/1/2013) – The Utica College women’s track & field team opened up its 2013 outdoor campaign on Saturday morning at the Hamilton College Invitational. 12 Pioneers posted first place finishes at the six team meet which included host Hamilton, SUNY Plattsburgh, Sage, Delhi and Mohawk Valley Community College.  

Freshman Ashton Villeneuve ran away with a first place finish in the 10000 meter run after clocking a time of 38:32.35.  The team of junior Jess Ciraulo, freshman Sarah Wiatr, junior Anea Isom and classmate Anastasia Bowden placed first in the 4x100 meter relay after coming in with a time of 50.21. 

Junior Samantha Prendergast placed first in the 800 meter run, posting a time of 2:24.84, while Anea Isom cruised in with a first place finish in the 200 meter dash (27.31). Junior Chelsea Bogino won the long jump competition with a leap of 4.82 meters, while Wiatr came back with a win in the triple jump (11.46m). 

UC’s Jaimee Balloni came in second in the 5000 meter run (5:03.51), while Jess Ciraulo and Audrey Schwind placed first and second in the women’s 100 meter hurdles with times of 15.32 and 17.97, respectively.  Junior Molly Hall added a second place finish in the 400 meter dash (1:05.75). 

The tandem of Ciraulo, Prendergast, Bowden and Wiatr won the 4x400 meter relay with a time of 4:14.18.

Freshman classmates Catalena Diamente and Kate Pearce split first place in the high jump, as they both cleared 1.47 meters, but failed to get past the 1.52 barrier.  UC two-sport athlete Kelcei Edmonds, a freshman who also plays on the women’s basketball team, placed first in the shot put in her first collegiate meet with a toss of 11.63 meters. 

Audrey Schwind was the only competitor in the 400 meter hurdles, as she posted a time of 1:17.53. 

The Pioneers return to the track this weekend when they travel to either Princeton on Friday or Cortland on Saturday.  Princeton University is hosting the Sam Howell Invitational on Friday, while SUNY Cortland is hosting the Cortland Invitational on Saturday at 3 p.m.
