LEXINGTON, Va. -- Nazareth opened its men's and women's outdoor track and field seasons Friday and Saturday at the VMI/Washington & Lee Carnival. The Golden Flyers had several strong performances, including a first-place finish by the 4 x 800-meter relay team. Freshman
Taylor Pierson also set a school record in the long jump as she finished first with a leap of 18 feet, 1/4 inches.
Nazareth's 4 x 800-meter relay team featured seniors
Kelsey Mash and
Kayla Murphy as well as junior
Lauren Heitzhaus and sophomore
Michaela Gildemeyer. They posted a winning time of 9:54.16.
Nazareth also finished third in the 4 x 100-meter relay with the team of freshmen Sigongile Chisi, Pierson and
Amanda Entress and sophomore
Hannah Brackley with a time of :50.70.
Other top performers included Brackley, who placed second in the 400-meter dash by breaking her own school record with a time of :59.20; Entress, who placed sixth in the triple jump (32 feet, 7 inches); Chisi, who seventh in the pole vault (9 feet, 1/4 inches); senior
Keaghlan Morrissey, who sixth in the 400-meter hurdles (:68.25); and Gildemeyer, who was eighth in the 800-meter run (2:22.28).
