UC Track & Field Competes at Cardinal Classic

Pittsford, NY (4/27/2013) – The Utica College men’s track and field team competed at the Cardinal Classic hosted by St. John Fisher College at the Poliseni Track & Field Complex on Saturday afternoon in Pittsford, NY. UC was led by freshman Rob Tutein who cleared 1.98 meters in the high jump, good enough for a first place tie with Alfred’s Isaiah Cassin.
Senior sprinter Sylvester Owusu-Afriyie came in third in the 100 meter dash after clocking a time of 10.98 while freshman Christian Lesperance finished third in the 400 meter dash with an ECAC qualifying time of 50.56. Lesperance also added an 11th place finish in the 200 meter dash with a time of 22.68.
Sophomore Kyle Sikes placed fourth in the men’s pole vault with a clearance of 4.20 meters, while William Bailey placed tenth in the javelin throw with a toss of 42.63 meters.
UC’s Hunter Padgett came in 15th out of 32 in the 1500 meter run with a time of 4:11.13 and Jamie McNamara added a fourth place finish in the 3000 meter steeplechase (10:21.98).
Utica’s Chris Jones will compete in the New York State Collegiate Track Conference Outdoor Championship Multis Sunday and Monday at Ithaca College. The rest of the Pioneers will return to the track on Friday when they travel to St. Lawrence to compete in the NYSCTC Championships.
