Ithaca's Biondi and Fisher's Stefanon Honored By Empire 8
Ithaca College's Jen Biondi and St. John Fisher Collge's Sarah Stefanon have been recognized by the Empire 8 Conference for their outstanding efforts during the week of April 22-28. Biondi was tabbed as the Player of the Week, while Stefanon was chosen as the Pitcher of the Week for the fourth time this year and the third time this month.
Biondi hit a game-winning three run homer in the bottom of the seventh inning to lead Ithaca to a 6-4 comeback win over Plattsburgh on Sunday in a neutral-site game at Union. The Bombers also defeated Uion earlier in the day and swept a Saturday doubleheader at RPI in a four-win week against Division III opposition. Biondi had seven hits, two homers and nine RBIs.
In a 4-0 week for Fisher, Stefanon was in the circle for 28 innings, picking up four wins, raising her record to 18-4 on the year. She struck out 40 batters in the four games and allowed only three earned runs, lowering her earned run average to 0.73 for the year.
