Fisher Smashes Record Books At Cardinal Classic
The St. John Fisher College women’s track and field team set several record and qualified multiple individuals for the ECAC Championship on Saturday at the 2013 Cardinal Classic. Fisher hosted the event at the College’s Polisseni Track and Field Complex, the first track and field meet ever held at the facility, thus all winning times at facility records as well.
Sophomore Lisa Knab qualified for ECAC after winning the high jump, clearing 1.63 meters (Fisher record).
Sophomore Nicoletta Lattuca set the Fisher record in the long jump at 5.36 meters, good for third overall and a spot at next month’s ECAC Championship. Classmate Morgan Mastin also qualified for ECACs in the 200, with a time of :26.45, also a new Fisher record.
Mastin and Lattuca also finished fourth and fifth, respectively in the 100, with times of :13.08 and :13.11.
Freshman Renee Deruchia won the 3,000 steeplechase with a Fisher-record time of 12:15.
Paige Willson set the Fisher record in the javelin (33.17) and placed second overall in the event. She also a new Fisher record in the shot put at 11.86 meters, good for second place and a spot at ECACs.
Freshmen Olivia Emerling (400 hurdles) and Danyelle Redmond (pole vault) both finished seventh overall in their event, while setting new College records. Emerling finished in 1:08.22, while Redmond cleared 2.95 meters. Emerling's time qualifies her for states next week.
Taylor Youngkrans took fifth in the hammer throw with a distance of 42.88 meters.
