Ithaca Women's T&F Day Posts Strong Performances at Cornell Sunday

ITHACA, N.Y.  – The Ithaca College women’s track & field team competed Sunday at Cornell’s Big Red Invitational, breaking one school record and meeting 21 ECAC qualifiers.

Sophomore Emilia Scheemaker shattered her own school record in the triple jump with a 12.17-meter performance to place second. She had previously broken the record with an 11.62-meter jump on April 6.

Ithaca had four qualifiers in the long jump. Senior Amanda Rissmeyer finished ninth with a mark of 5.48 meters. Sophomore Christine Benway was 13th with a 5.32-meter jump, freshman Kayla Prior was 16th with a mark of 5.20 meters and rookie Lizzi Dowling finished 19th with a distance of 5.17 meters.

Rissmeyer also hit ECAC qualifiers in the high jump and javelin throw. She finished fifth in the high with a 1.61-meter clear and fourth in the javelin with a heave of 36.34 meters. Freshman Brooke Zimmerman finished as runner-up in the javelin with a toss of 38.87 meters.

Senior Tammia Hubbard was 23rd in the 100-meter hurdles with a time of 15.57 and Benway followed in 28th with a finish of 15.92. Hubbard also placed eighth in the 400 hurdles with a finish of 1:05.04.

Freshman Eliza Dewart was 10th in the 400 dash and junior Martyann Chromik 12th. They clocked times of 59.07 and 59.99, respectively.

Senior Colleen Garman placed sixth in the hammer and junior Elaine Abdulky followed in seventh. Garman had a mark of 44.87 meters and Abdulky a throw of 44.81 meters. Abdulky also finished seventh in the discus. She tallied a distance of 36.27 meters.

Two pole vaulters cleared the qualifier. Freshman Alex Rechen placed sixth with a height of 3.42 meters and junior Shannon Meehan was ninth with a 3.27-meter clear.

Senior Jenn Randall ran third in the 800 with a time of 2:12.98. Freshman Sarah Werner placed 13th in the 100 dash in 12.79. Sophomore Corrine Taylor was seventh with an 11.62-meter hurl in the shot.

The Bombers will compete again as a team Friday and Saturday, May 3-4 at the NYSCTC Outdoor Championships hosted by St. Lawrence.
