Elmira Sweeps Hilbert To Keep Win Streak Alive

Elmira, NY – The Elmira College Softball team swept the visiting Hilbert College Hawks, 8-0 and 4-1, Thursday evening at Eldridge Park Stadium. The Soaring Eagles improve to 10-4 overall and continue their win streak to eight games, while Hawks fall to 2-10 overall.

In game one the Soaring Eagles dominated late scoring three runs in the bottom of the fifth and five runs in the sixth to earn the 8-0 victory. Alex Puglisi ’14 once again dominated from the mound pitching six scoreless innings with one hit and 11 strikeouts. She also performed well from the plate going 3-for-3, hitting an RBI single and scoring two runs. Also performing well for EC was Mikayla Bean ’14, Alex Andrade ’13 and Megan Anderson ’15 who each got two hits and drove in two RBI’s.

In game two EC got the lead early and scored two securing runs in the bottom of the sixth to hold on for the 4-1 victory. Sarah Johnson ’15 earned the win for EC pitching the first five innings giving up one run, three hits and three walks, while striking out eight batters. Puglisi got the save as she pitched the last two innings giving up one walk, while striking out three batters. Krystal Bupp ’15, Katie Day ’16 and Abby Coyne ’16 each went 1-for-3 from the plate registering RBI singles in the game.

The Purple and Gold will return to action Saturday when they travel to Nazareth College in a conference showdown. First game to start at 1:00 p.m. and second game to start at 3:00 p.m.
