Bombers Blank Stevens In Baseball Doubleheader

ITHACA, N.Y. – The Ithaca College baseball team used two stellar pitching performances to sweep a doubleheader from the visiting Stevens Ducks on Saturday afternoon. The Bombers (16-4) failed to give up a run in 14 innings winning the first game 4-0 and the nightcap 3-0. The Bombers improved their record in Empire 8 play to a perfect 2-0 while the Stevens duck fell to 2-4 in the conference. The Bombers return to play tomorrow at Freeman Field in another Empire 8 doubleheader against the Ducks beginning at 1 p.m.

The Bombers scored once in each of the first two innings and twice in the fifth to cruise to a 4-0 victory behind the complete game shutout performance of senior Pat Lemmo.

The Bombers offense got on the board early as junior Tim Locastro, who was 2-for-3 in the game singled, stole second, and scored on a RBI single to left field by fellow junior Tim Henry. An inning later, sophomore Max Addy singled and later scored on a RBI single from junior outfielder Luke Stark to make the score 2-0. The score remained 2-0 until the fifth inning when senior Andrew Turner led off the inning with a single, followed by a bunt single by sophomore Christian Brown. Freshman Cam Oathout, who had come in to pinch run for Turne,r advanced to third on the bunt, and later scored on a fielder’s choice by Locastro. Locastro stole second for his second stolen base of the game, and scored on a single by junior third baseman Colby Gee.

Lemmo improved to 4-0 on the season, keeping the visiting hitters off balance all day, and allowing just two hits in the game, both of which were infield singles. He struck out 9 Stevens hitters while lowering his team-best earned-run average to 1.49.

The Bombers scored twice in the first inning and notched an insurance run in the fifth to win their second game of the day and improve to 16-4 on the season.

Christian Brown led off the game by being hit by a pitch and later stole second base. Junior Tim Henry then battled back from being in the count 0-2 to walk after seeing more then 10 pitches. Henry and Brown later stole second and third before scoring on a double by senior catcher Corey Caswell. Brown later scored the Bombers third run after being walked, stealing his second base of the game, and scoring on a single to leftfield by Tim Locastro.

Jimmy Wagner pitched six strong innings for the Bombers allowing just two hits and striking out seven to raise his team leading season total to 38. David Jasukonis pitched the final inning, striking out the side on his way to earning his third save of the year.
