Elmira Dominates Pioneers for First Conference Win
Utica, NY – The EC Men’s Tennis team dominated the Utica College Pioneers, 9-0, Saturday afternoon to pick up its first conference victory. The Soaring Eagles improve to 3-2 overall and 1-1 in the Empire 8, while the Pioneers fall to 2-1 overall and 0-1 in conference.
In doubles action the Purple and Gold took it to the Pioneers controlling the tempo from the start.
Satchal Waters ’16 and
Austin Mansell ’16 played extremely well at the second spot winning 8-2, meanwhile
Steffan Waters ’13 and
Scott Ferron ’16 demolished their competition at the third spot winning 8-1.
Keith Bujak ’15 and
Sam Pine ’14 hit a rough patch at the first doubles spot, but came together later to pull out the victory 8-4.
The Soaring Eagles continued their success in singles where they took all six matches.
Pavle Vashakidze ’16, Bujak and
Mansell dictated their matches only dropping one game between the three. The
Waters Brothers also did well at the second and third singles’ spots dropping only seven games.
Pine was pushed to the limits at the sixth singles spot, but came out victorious in the end winning 6-4, 4-6, 6-0.
The EC Men’s Tennis team will have a little break before returning to action Sunday, April 14 when they travel to Hoboken, NJ to face rival Stevens Institute of Technology.
