Houghton Explodes for 24 Runs in Win at Hilbert

BATAVIA, N.Y. -- Houghton scored eight times in the top of the first and kept the runs coming throughout the evening in a 24-5 win over Hilbert College in baseball action at Dwyer Stadium.

The Highlanders had 21 hits in the contest, but just four extra base hits. Eight different Highlanders recorded base knocks, led by Ignacio Villalobos (Brantford, ON, Canada, Assumption College School) who had five hits, two runs and seven RBIs. Kaiden Bowers (Brantford, ON, Canada, Assumption College School) had four hits and three runs scored, while Christopher McKay (Oakville, ON, Canada) and Michael Knapp (Brockport, NY) had three hits apiece and each scored four runs.

Houghton was aided by seven Hilbert errors and three hit batsman.

Seth Cornell (Almond, NY, Alfred-Almond CS) pitched five inning, recording seven strikeouts and allowing just three hits and one run. Kyle Flemington (Burlington, ON, Canada, Nelson HS) pitched two innings in relief, allowing seven hits and four earned runs.

Houghton (5-10) returns to action for a doubleheader at Cazenovia College on Tuesday, April 9.
