Royals' Attempt To Win Fifth Straight Utica Invitational Title Falls Just Short Sunday

CLINTON, NY—The University of Scranton men’s golf team’s attempt to win its fifth straight Utica Invitational title fell just short Sunday afternoon at the Skenandoa Golf Club.

The Royals finished second with a four-score tally of 330, 12 strokes behind the A team from St. Lawrence University (318).  SUNY Delhi A was third (331), followed by SUNY Delhi B (332), St. Lawrence B (344), Hobart (345), Houghton (383), Utica A (384), and Utica B (430).

 Junior Grant Gulick (Binghamton, NY/Johnson City) led Scranton with a 79, his eight sub-80 round of the season, and junior Charles Hudacek (Moosic, Pa./Scranton Preparatory) was next with an 82.  The Royals also received an 84 from sophomore Erik Meyer (Clarks Summit, Pa./Abington Heights), and 85s from senior co-captains Jamie Bresnahan(Exeter, Pa./Wyoming Area) and Justin Riley (Haymarket, Va./Battlefield) and freshman Ryan Brown (Scranton, Pa./Scranton Preparatory).

Scranton won the previous four Utica Invitational titles, posting a 294 last September at Skenodoa Golf Club, a 319 on April 7, 2012, and a 302 on September 4, 2011, both of which were held at Kanon Valley Country Club in Oneida, New York, and a 312 on September 4, 2010, at the Hidden Valley Golf Course in Whitesboro, New York.

The Royals will return to action this Thursday, April 11, by hosting King’s College and Baptist Bible at Glenmaura National Golf Club in Moosic beginning at 1:00 p.m.
