UC Places 8th in Spring Opener - Pioneers Fire 382 in Windy Conditions

Clinton, NY (4-7-13) – The Utica College golf team placed eighth Sunday as the host of the UC Spring Invitational, carding a team total of 382, at the Skenandoa Golf Club in Clinton, NY. Freshman Ryan Stalker led the Pioneers as he placed 27th overall with a score of 88 in his first tournament of the Spring.
St. Lawrence took first place, and all the hardware, with a team score of 318 despite the severe windy conditions. SLU’s Jack Reardon fired a 77 to take the medalist trophy. The University of Scranton, who has won the last four UC Invite’s, came in second place carding a 4-man total of 330. SUNY Delhi, in its first Utica College tournament in recent years, took third and fourth place respectively with scores of 331 and 332. St. Lawrence (Team 2) and Hobart finished fifth and sixth, just one stroke apart, with SLU carding a 344 to the Statesmen’s 345. Houghton took eighth place just in front of the Pioneers with a 381 while UC totaled scores of 382 (Team 1) and 430 (Team 2).
Stalker, from nearby Sauquoit, NY, turned in scores of 44 on the front and back to pace the Pioneers while sophomore captain Christian Leogrande shot 93 as he tied for 32nd place overall, carding a 41 on the front and a 52 on the back, in Utica's Spring season-opener.
UC returns to the course Friday, April 12th as the squad heads to SUNY Delhi for an afternoon match set for 12 p.m. at the Delhi College Golf Course.
