Bomber Baseball Beats Seventh-Ranked Cortland 9-5
CORTLAND, N.Y. -- The Ithaca College baseball team slugged their way to an early lead and went on to a 9-5 victory over seventh-ranked Cortland on Tuesday afternoon at Wallace Field. The Bombers built a 7-2 advantage in the fourth inning and improved to 19-4 on the season. The Bombers have won 15 games in a row, and handed the Red Dragons their fourth loss in five games since they ascended to the nation's top-ranked spot in the nation.
Ithaca started the game with three runs in the top of the first and never looked back. The inning started with walks to Christian Brown and Tim Locastro and an infield single by Tim Henry. Brown scored on a wild pitch and Locastro scored on an RBI groundout, then Max Addy singled to right field and brought in a third run.
The Red Dragons answered with two runs in the bottom of the first, but Ithaca scored the next six runs of the contest. Ithaca added a run in the third on an RBI single by Luke Stark. Three runs came in to score in the fourth, two on a throwing error by Cortland and another on a double-play groundout. Corey Caswell had an RBI sacrifice fly in the sixth and Brown had an RBI double in the seventh.
Ithaca starting pitcher Andrew Sanders worked five effective innings and picked up the win to improve to 1-1 on the year. Brandon Dorio and Matt Colbert each pitched two innings in relief. Colbert totaled three strikeouts in his two innings of work.
Brown, Henry and Colby Gee all had two hits each for Ithaca and Brown and Henry each scored two runs. Locastro scored three times. Caswell had two RBIs.
