HOBOKEN, N.J. (April 8, 2013) – Stevens Institute of Technology men’s tennis senior Shota Tasaki (Greenwich, Conn.) has been named the Empire 8 Conference Athlete of the Week.  Tasaki went a perfect 5-0 over the team’s three matches this week.

Tasaki posted the Ducks’ only undefeated record this week, going 5-0 over two doubles and three singles matches this week.  He was the Ducks' only double-winner on Wednesday at NYU, taking second doubles and fourth singles, which tied the match with only one court still playing to help Stevens to victory over the No. 13 Northeast region team. He also won at second doubles and fourth singles Saturday morning at St. John Fisher College, then added a win at third singles later in the day at Alfred University.

The award is the men's tennis team's second of the spring, as freshman Matthew Heinrich (Hendersonville, Tenn.) was recognized as the Athlete of the Week on March 25.

The men’s tennis squad has started Empire 8 play 2-0 after wins at St. John Fisher College and Alfred University on Saturday and is now 6-5 overall this spring, with all five losses coming at the hands of national Top-23 teams.  The Ducks are on a four-match winning streak dating back to March 24.

Head Coach Steve Gachko and the Ducks will look to knock off No. 27 Skidmore College (6-6) in Saratoga Springs, N.Y. on Saturday, April 13.
