UC Men's Tennis Cruises Past Sage; Pioneers Improve to 3-1

Utica, NY (4/8/2013) – The Utica College men’s tennis team bounced back from its first loss of the year with a convincing 8-1 victory over visiting Sage College on Monday afternoon at the Utica College tennis courts. The Pioneers improved to 3-1 overall headed into a key four game Empire 8 Conference stretch.
Utica’s Jon Gorman won first singles (6-0, 6-1) and teamed up with Daniel Fadden to take home another team point in first doubles (8-1). Mike Zaloom defeated Sage’s Cory Alvarado 6-1, 6-1 in second singles, while teaming up with two-sport athlete (swimming) Raphael Warnon to earn an 8-0 win in second doubles.
Daniel Fadden defeated Mark Castillo in fourth singles, 6-0, 6-1 and Matt Rogers wrapped the Pioneers' final point in sixth singles with a convincing 6-0, 6-0 sweep of Alex Fernandez.
Sage (0-7) got its lone victory of the afternoon in fifth singles when Rick Butt defeated Sam Cotrupe.
The Pioneers hit the road on Saturday when they travel to conference foe Nazareth College at 1 p.m.
