MAHWAH, N.J. (April 6, 2013)
– The Stevens Institute of Technology men’s and women’s indoor track & field teams competed at Ramapo College on Saturday and three individuals took first overall in their respective events. Both squads finished sixth in team points with 75 for the women and 37 for the men. There were 22 teams at the meet on the women’s side and 21 on the men’s.

Freshmen Amy Regan (Green Brook, N.J.) and Gladys Njoku (Cedar Grove, N.J.) both finished first and set meet records in the 5,000-meter run and high jump. Regan posted a time of 17:39.37 in the 5K and topped the next closest competitor by 1:13. She also broke the meet record by nearly a minute. Njoku cleared the bar at 1.63 meters (5 feet, 4.25 inches) to win the high jump and tied the meet record in the process.

Both Regan and Njoku set school records in the process. Regan topped the previous mark set by Ashley Princiotta last week and qualified for ECAC's with the 17th best time in Division III this season. Njoku matched her personal best and school record in the high jump.

Senior Ashley Princiotta (Manalapan, N.J.) finished as the runner-up in the 3,000-meter steeplechase with a final time of 11:57.40. Princiotta would break the school record by 28 seconds in the steeplechase which was set back in 2010. Freshman Alexandra Doyle (Colts Neck, N.J.) also took second in the discus with a toss of 38.55 meters (126’ 6”). Doyle re-established her own school record in the event by nearly two meters and currently holds the 38th best distance in the country.

Two student-athletes for the women also came in third in the hammer throw and pole vault. Senior Grace Python (Glenmont, N.Y.) recorded a mark of 43.19 meters (148’ 1”) in the hammer, while junior Rebecca Tylock (Shrewsbury, Mass.) cleared 3.05 meters (10 feet) in the pole vault.

Freshman Brianna Marchal (Manahawkin, N.J.) also competed in the discus and placed fourth with a distance of 32.40 meters (106’ 3”). Fellow freshman Yona Bauzil (West Orange, N.J.) took fifth in the discus with a mark of 31.71 meters (104 feet).

The solid all-around performance by the women’s team was rounded out by freshman Kate Moyer (Long Valley, N.J.) who placed fifth in the 5K with a time of 19:16.59.

For the men, senior Sebastian Luna (Wood-Ridge, N.J.) was the top competitor in the javelin with an impressive throw of 60.21 meters (197’ 6”). Luna beat the field of 28 by nearly two meters. Luna's toss was a season best and sits 15th in the NCAA.

Senior Victor Servito (Teaneck, N.J.) finished second in the 110-meter hurdles and fourth in the high jump. Servito ran a personal best time of 15.27 seconds in the 110 hurdles and cleared 1.90 meters (6’ 2.75”) in the high jump.

Sophomore Robert Pinto (Staten Island, N.Y.) finished immediately ahead of Servito in the high jump with a cleared height of 1.95 meters (6’ 4.75”) to place third. Classmate Thomas Cunningham (Colonia, N.J.) ran in the 5K and finished sixth with a personal best time of 15:50.19.

Senior Joel Oquendo (North Bergen, N.J.) threw the hammer 39.92 meters (131 feet) to finish sixth overall and complete the top placements for the men’s team.

Head Coach Justin Wood was very pleased with the team's efforts on Saturday stating, “This meet was a huge confidence booster for our team.  They have been working hard to get ready for championship season and the results showed that today.”

Both squads will compete again on April 13 at the Coach P Open in Bethlehem, Pa. at 10 a.m.
