Palmer & Stefanon Earn Empire 8 Weekly Awards
Elmira freshman Ashley Palmer and St. John Fisher senior Stefanon were honored by the Empire 8 Conference for their stellar play over the last week.
Palmer, who was named the Empire 8 Softball Player of the Week, had a phenomenal week as the Softball team went 6-2 in eight contests. The freshman hit .560 from the plate scoring four runs and finishing with 7 RBIs. In the field she recorded seven putouts and two assists.
The freshman went a perfect 7-for-7 in a two-game sweep of Penn Tech scoring three runs and batting in 5 RBIs while hitting a home run and triple.
Palmer went 3-for-6 against Nazareth and 3-for-7 versus Fisher as she scored once and batted in two runs. She recorded a double in both series. So far this season the Verona, NY native is hitting .480 with 24 hits, 14 RBIs and two home runs.
Elmira returns to the diamond Friday when it hosts Alfred University for a doubleheader beginning at 3:00 p.m. at Eldridge Park Stadium.
Stefanon was named the Pitcher of the Week. She appeared in two Empire 8 contests, one against Stevens Institute of Technology on Saturday and then Elmira College on Sunday. She has now won five games straight and did not allow a run in the weekend contests. Stefanon struck out a combined 17 hitters while scattering seven hits in the two-day span.
Fisher will host Houghton College at 3 p.m. on April 9.
