Waybright, Collins Take Weekly Awards from Empire 8

Meg Collins (Marshfield, Mass.) were honored by the Empire 8 for their roles in a 3-0 week by the Stevens Institute of Technology women’s lacrosse team.
Waybright was named the conference’s Player of the Week, with Collins netting Goalie of the Week accolades.
The Ducks opened with a 13-4 win over Rowan University Thursday, before a 12-6 conference victory at Elmira College Saturday and a 16-3 rout of Alfred University Sunday.
In the Alfred game, Waybright became the sixth player in the history of Stevens women’s lacrosse to record her 200th career point. She finished the game with eight points – 203 for her career – behind five goals and three assists. In the other E8 win over Elmira, Waybright notched three goals and one assist along with four ground balls, four caused turnovers and two draw controls. She began the week against Rowan with a six-point-performance on the back of five goals and one assist. The Connecticut native added three draw controls, two ground balls and a pair of caused turnovers to her line.
Waybright finished the week with 13 markers and five assists for 18 points. She had seven ground balls, six draw controls and six caused turnovers. For the year, the tri-captain now has 37 goals, 23 assists, 32 DC’s, 24 ground balls and 11 caused turnovers.
Despite playing in just two of the team’s three wins last week, Collins had a huge week, recording 20 saves and just 10 goals against. She notched a season-best 14 denials and allowed only four goals on 23 shots faced in Stevens’ 13-4 win over Rowan Thursday. She then came back with six saves and just six goals against – including only one in the second half – in the Ducks’ 12-6 win over the Soaring Eagles.
Collins totaled 120 minutes in the cage, 10 goals against on 39 shots and a save percentage of .667. She also scooped up three ground balls and caused a turnover.
Collins and the Stevens defense has tightened up over the last four games allowing a total of just 21 goals against. The Ducks as a team have outscored the opposition 41-13 during their current three-game winning streak.
Waybright, Collins and the rest of the Ducks will look to improve to 7-6 overall and 3-1 in the conference when they visit Hartwick College April 13 in Oneonta, N.Y. Stevens returns home to the De Baun Athletic Complex April 19 against St. John Fisher College.
