Regan, Scheemaker and Pierson Claim E8 Weekly Honors
Stevens Institute of Technology freshman Amy Regan, Ithaca sophomore Emilia Scheemaker and Nazareth freshman Taylor Pierson were honored by the Empire 8 as Track and Field Atheltes of the week for their performances over the weekend.
Regan finished first and set a meet record in the 5,000-meter run last weekend. She posted a time of 17:39.37 and topped the next closest competitor by 1:13. Regan also broke the meet record by nearly a minute. She set a new school record in the process and qualified for ECAC's with the 17th best time in DIII.
Scheemaker set Ithaca's outdoor triple jump record on Saturday at the Princeton Sam Howell Invitational. She placed fourth to three Division I student-athletes in the event with an ECAC-qualifying mark of 11.62 meters. Marcia McCord held the previous record of 11.59 meters since April 29, 2011. The jump ranks her sixth in the nation in the event.
Pierson finished first in the long jump at the ROC City Classic hosted by Nazareth at Golden Flyer Stadium. Pierson shattered the Golden Flyers' school record with a leap of 18 feet, 5 1/2 inches to easily win the competition. She also was part of Nazareth's school-recording breaking 4 x 100-meter relay that placed second in :50.84.
