Stevens Institute of Technology sophomore women’s lacrosse player Amanda Ingersoll (Baldwinsville, NY/C.W. Baker) has been appointed as a member of the NCAA Division III Student-Athlete Advisory Committee.

The Division III SAAC consists of one student-athlete representative from each pair of conferences represented in the Division III SAAC partnership program and at least one student-athlete from a Division III independent institution.  Ingersoll will serve as a representative for the Empire 8 Athletic Conference and the State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC).

Ingersoll’s term begins immediately and continues through May 1, 2016. She replaces former Plattsburgh State men’s lacrosse player Tucker Glass of the SUNYAC, whose term on the national committee recently expired.

“I am so excited to be taking on this roll and representing the Empire 8 and SUNYAC on a national level,” said Ingersoll.  “I hope to remain true to the mission statement of SAAC and ‘enhance the total student-athlete experience’ as I serve during my term.  In doing this, I am looking forward to being able to apply and share my experiences as a student athlete in order to better the experience of not only my teammates but also student-athletes throughout the conference and all of Division III.”

Ingersoll will be one of 24 NCAA Division III student-athletes (12 male, 12 female) serving on the national committee.  SAAC provides insight on the student-athlete experience and offers input on the rules, regulations and policies that affect student-athletes' lives on NCAA member institution campuses.

“I think student athletes can make a big difference by bringing groups of people together for a common interest,” noted Ingersoll.  “Division III student-athletes have a lot of advantages as we are able to play a sport and not have to sacrifice a great education.”

Ingersoll is a two-time first-team All-Conference honoree for E8 women’s lacrosse and was named the 2012 Rookie of the Year. She has helped Stevens earn back-to-back appearances in the E8 Championship Tournament. Most recently Ingersoll earned first-team All-Boardwalk honors after second-team IWLCA All-Region honors as a freshman.

“I am so proud of Amanda for being selected as the National SAAC representative,” stated Stevens Head Women’s Lacrosse Coach Celine Cunningham.  “She is a remarkable student-athlete and will bring an excellent perspective to the National SAAC.  Amanda will be a great voice for the student-athletes of the Empire 8 and the SUNYAC conferences.  I am excited to see her grow and contribute during her time on the committee.”

The aim of the NCAA SAAC is to provide opportunity for and protect the wellbeing of NCAA student-athletes as well as promote a positive student-athlete self image.  Service on the DIII SAAC involves attending three in-person meetings a year (July, November and January), as well as participating on a number of conference calls throughout the year. The January meeting is held in conjunction with the NCAA National Convention, giving the SAAC an opportunity to interact directly with college athletics leaders.
