Fisher in Sole Possession of Eighth Place at NCAA Championship
The St. John Fisher College men’s golf team shot a 301 (+13) on the first day of the NCAA Division III Championship at The Link at Sandestin Golf and Beach Resort in Destin, FL. That score places the Cardinals at eighth place on the team leaderboard, 11 strokes off the pace set by host Methodist University, who shot 290 (+2).
Joseph Radulski and Corey Haas led Fisher on the day, both coming in with 74 (+2). Radulski, a senior, played controlled all day, fluctuating between even and plus-two throughout the round. Haas, in his first NCAA Championship appearance, shot one-under on his back nine. Their scores place the teammates in a tie for 21st place on the player’s leaderboard.
Chris Blyth was just a stroke behind his fellow Cardinals, birdying three of four holes around the turn to make up for some early struggles. The sophomore also shot one-under on the back side, birdying No. 2 and No. 3 before a late bogey took away a stroke. His first day 75 (+3) has Blyth in a tie for 27th place.
Rounding out the team’s score for Tuesday were Josh Rathbun and Thad Wier, who both finished with 78s (+6). Wier heads in to tomorrow’s round on a good note, birdying his final hole, the par-5 No. 9, for a one-under on the back. Rathbun will also enter tomorrow with a steady confidence, finishing day one’s round with six-straight pars.
Fisher will return to action at 8:20 a.m. tomorrow as it plays The Raven at Sandestin. After the second round of golf is completed there will be a cut, with only 15 teams making the final two rounds.
