Ithaca Finishes 10th at ECAC Outdoor Championships; Stevens and Fisher Tally Points

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. – Empire 8 men's track and field teams completed competition in the ECAC Division III track and field championships at Springfield College.

The Ithaca College men’s track & field team placed 10th out of 65 teams at the 2013 ECAC Outdoor Championship hosted by Springfield. The Bombers scored 22 points throughout the meet.

Stevens Institute of Technology totaled 18 points to place 12th and St. John Fisher College finished 55th with two points.

Ithaca senior Alec Svoboda earned silver in the decathlon with a career-best 4,107-point performance. After ranking ninth following day one’s five events, he finished the 100-meter hurdles in 16.91, threw 34.00 meters in the discus, cleared 4.05 meters in the pole vault, tossed 42.59 meters in the javelin and crossed the finish line of the 1,000 in 4:38.47 to move into scoring position on day two.

Entering day two in second position in the decathlon, Fisher freshman Devin Cornelius came away with a seventh place finish in the event.  After slipping in a few event, Cornelius set personal records in the javelin (38.38 meters) and 1500 meter run (4:32.74) to move up from 10th place and finish in seventh.  His 5,830 points were a career high that broke his own Fisher record.

The Bombers’ 4x800 relay that wrapped up all track events, placed third in 7:47.36. The team was comprised of sophomore Dennis Ryan, freshman Larkin Bohanan and seniors Nathan Bickell and David Geary.

Ithaca’s 4x100 relay of sophomores Rashaad Barrett, Tyler Curtis and Kevin Davis and junior Jake Willis teamed together to clock a 42.26 finish and place fifth.

Stevens sophomore Robert Pinto surpassed a school standard in the high jump and finished third out of 25 participants. Pinto's previous best mark was 1.98 meters and he moved past that with a leap of 2.01 meters (6 feet, 7 inches) today. He was just two inches shy of taking first overall in the event.
