Ithaca and Utica Register Points on Day 1 of ECAC Outdoor Championships

Empire 8 women’s outdoor track & field teams finished up Day One at the ECAC Championships on Thursday at Springfield College. After eight events Ithaca ranks fifth with 18 points scored and Utica stands 33rd with two points.
Ithaca freshman Brooke Zimmerman placed third in the javelin with a throw of 43.33 meters. The heave shattered the school record of 42.85 meters set a season ago by Ashley Dlubac.
Sophomore Emilia Scheemaker placed third in the triple jump with a mark of 12.03 meters. Classmate Carolyn Malone earned a fifth-place finish of 11.34.20 in the 3,000 steeplechase. Senior Colleen Garman tallied a point with a season-best, eighth-place finish of 47.95 meters in the hammer throw.
The Bombers' 4x400 relay team of freshmen Eliza Dewart and Christine Kelly, senior Jenn Randall and junior Martyann Chromik clocked an eighth-place finish of 3:55.48.
Senior Tammia Hubbard finished the 100 hurdles with a season-best time of 14.56 to qualify for Saturday's finals.
Freshman Ashton Villeneuve, of Utica College, placed seventh overall in the 10,000 meter run, out of 24 runners, with a personal-best time of 38:14.66.
