Empire 8 Women's T&F Sending Seven to NCAA Outdoor Championships
LA CROSSE, WIS. – The Empire 8 Athletic Conference will be represented by seven athletes in eight events at the NCAA Women's Outdoor Track and Field Championships Thursday through Saturday, May 23-25 at Wisconsin-La Crosse.
Ithaca senior
Jenn Randall is scheduled to compete in the 1,500-meter run preliminaries Thursday at 4:30 p.m. CT*. Her school-record time of 4:29.52 ranks seventh on the list. Randall will also compete Friday in the 800 run prelims at 7:10 p.m. Her season-best performance of 2:11.55 ranks her 15th on the performance list.
Senior
Amanda Rissmeyer will compete in the high jump Friday at 2:15 p.m. She cleared a season-best height of 1.70 meters. Rissmeyer is one of three to clear 1.70 meters this season, while six have cleared 1.71 meters or higher.
Senior
Tammia Hubbard will race in the 100 high hurdle prelims Friday at 5:05 p.m. Her season-best time of 14.44, that earned her silver at the ECAC Outdoor Championships, ranks her 14th.
Sophomore
Emilia Scheemaker ranks fifth nationally with a school-record mark of 12.17 meters in the triple jump. She will compete Saturday at 3:20 p.m.
Rookie
Brooke Zimmerman sits eighth with a school-record heave of 43.33 meters in the javelin. She will throw Saturday at 3:45 p.m.
Hubbard and Zimmerman will travel to the NCAA Championships for the first time in their careers, while the other three Bombers will return as veterans. Randall and Rissmeyer each notched their first all-America finishes during the indoor season.
Nazareth freshman Taylor Pierson will compete in the long jump on Thursday at 3pm. She ranks 17th nationally with a distance of 5.63 meters. Pierson competed at the Indoor Championships and placed 10th.
Stevens Institute of Technology Amy Regan has qualified for the 5,000-meter run which will take place on Saturday at 5:30 pm. Regan heads into the championships with the 13th best time in the 5K with a time of 17:03.41. She is just one of three freshmen to qualify and sits six seconds behind in seeding from the top eight runners in the event.
