Historic Tournament Win For Ithaca Women's Golf Team; Sharon Li Wins Individual Title
SOUTH HADLEY, Mass. -- The Ithaca College women's golf team, ranked 17th nationally by the Golf Digest / WGCA poll, posted a historic tournament victory with a closing round score of 322 and a two-day total of 642 at the Jack Leaman Championship, hosted by Amherst and Mount Holyoke. Sophomore Sharon Li won the individual medalist honors with a two-day total of 6-over-par 152, five strokes better than the second-place finisher. In the Bomber program's four-year varsity history, this was the most impressive tournament title, as Ithaca defeated four teams that are currently nationally-ranked among a field of 12 teams overall.
Seventh-ranked Williams was second in the team standings, two shots behind Ithaca. No. 16 Middlebury was third with a total of 656 and No. 23 NYU was fourth at 659.
Li posted a 1-over-par 73 on the second round of the tournament, which was played at The Orchards in South Hadley, Mass, a par-72 layout that played to 5,880 yards. Kelsey Baker was second on the Ithaca team and tied for third overall with a total of 158 after back-to-back rounds of 79. Jackie Young made it three players in the top-10 for Ithaca as she was tied for 10th with 80-84--164. Amanda Failla rounded out the scoring players for Ithaca with 82-86--168 and was tied for 20th. Samantha Liberty posted 96-91--187 and was 47th overall.
The Bombers return to action at home next weekend as Ithaca hosts the ECAC New York Championships at the Country Club of Ithaca on Saturday and Sunday.
